Blood and Sand Spartacus (Spartacus blood and sand) is an American series for Starz Media, created and produced by Robert Tapert, Sam Raimi, Josh Donen and Sarah Lazarova. It premiered on January 22, 2010.

This historical drama focuses on Spartacus (played by Andy Whitfield), a gladiator who later becomes the leader of a slave rebellion against the major Roman Republic.

Thracian slave Spartacus was a very cultured, intelligent and fair. Was aimed at hard labor in quarries of gypsum, but thanks to his physical strength, was bought by a merchant to the gladiator school of Lentulus Batiatus Capua. Thus in the year 72 a. C., while in this school, Spartacus devised and carried out a rebellion to escape along with several colleagues. Some 74 men, led by Spartacus, Cris and Oenomaus (The latter two of Gallic origin) fled the city armed with what they found.

Upon learning of the uprising, the Romans, without giving much importance to this incident, sent from Capua a small brigade of soldiers, which was defeated. Slaves rapidly replaced their guns with real armor Roman gladiators.

Contrary to the Roman military doctrine, and completely disregarding the slaves, Clodius Glabro set up camp at the foot of the mountain, where the only way down from the top, without establishing a security fence. Upon learning of this fact, Spartacus took a brilliant plan. Lowered his men for the steepest part of the volcano, tied by ropes to the strain of a wild vine, falling by surprise on the Roman soldiers, inflicting heavy casualties and forcing survivors to flee in disorder, leaving the camp in the hands of slaves. That was the first great victory of Spartacus, the Battle of Vesuvius and the beginning of the great Revelion against Rome. Source: Wikipedia.com
